Day 28: money

This is an easy challenge: take a picture of a bill you have. However, I am not one to carry cash around, but today I have some from my Avon sales. So I took a picture of those.

The most important is, however, what the bill says on the back. And since tomorrow I go in to take my Bar exam, that is what I wanted to post today.

In God we trust!

Day 27: something you (I) ate!

This is a great challenge/post to write about our new dieting plan!

About a month ago, I decided that I was going to loose the remaining few pounds once and for all. I could not understand why I was not loosing even though I was exercising, nursing and trying to diet. So I decided I was going to write down everything I was eating and joined (or rather, re-joined) myfitnesspal which even has an app for on the go. That is how I found out I had my body on starvation mode as I was eating less calories than recommended, so my body needed to store that food hence the not loosing weight. Once I fixed the problem, I lost over 2.5 lbs and DH, who joined me on this next step, lost almost 4 lbs in just ONE WEEK! Oh boy, could we see the difference!! In addition, we have changed our eating habits, after I did some research, and we are trying the healthy foods approach - non processed foods like whole wheat bread and pasta, vegetables, fruits, legumes, among other foods. We feel great, more energized and are loosing weight!

But as in any diet plan, we let ourselves enjoy a treat once in a while so we can keep on track. Yesterday was treat day, since we are with my mother-in-law, and we decided to go to Red Lobster!!! And what do you know? They are doing Lobster Fest and had this amazing dish that I had to try. However, in the spirit of eating healthy, I decided to eat just a small portion and take the rest home. The dish was so big that today both, DH and I, could eat from them and were satisfied!

This is what we had.

Day 26: Night

How to capture night? It is a difficult thing to do and with all this studying, my creative juices are not flowing. So I decided I would post a picture of what MY nights look like. And I love it!

Day 25: green!

Green! My husband's favorite color so we do have quite a few things around the house in green. Our decor is based on blue, green and brown, which were actually our wedding colors.

Today's picture is of a center piece I prepared.

Day 24: inside your bathroom cabinet

My cabinet: not a pretty sight! However, I did try to organize it a little before my mother in law came to visit from Puerto Rico. This is the end result!

Day 23: my shoes!

First of all, I want to wish a Happy Birthday to my Dad!!! I'm sorry we cannot be there, but we love you.

Now, to the challenge. I think it is safe to say I own many pair of shoes like most women do! So many that I even have shoes back in my mother's house in Puerto Rico as I could not, and did not, want to deal with the hassle of moving with that many. However, now that I am in the states and get long periods of cold weather, I find myself using the same few pairs of shoes. Like today: my pair of fall boots!

Love them!

Day 22: where you work

As some may know, I am currently not working full-time for a living, instead I am selling Avon products from my home.  However, I do hold the most gratifying job - I say this risking to sound cliché to some of you -, that is, being a mom to my nine month old daughter. So my workplace is my home.

watching some Baby Einstein

And for the sake of clarification, being a stay at home mom (SAHM) is a full-time task with no vacations, no breaks, constantly challenging and tiresome. But, even though I struggled with the idea in the beginning, now I have to say that I love it. I love when she crawls excitedly towards me, how sweet she looks when sleeps, the feeling I get when she says mama and her squeals and laughs in excitement. Now I understand that if I was working, I would miss all of this. Like my mom says, everything has a positive side and God has a purpose for everything.

Day 21: a favorite photo of me!

I have many pictures of me, but a favorites? I do not think I have many, however, there is one I absolutely LOVE taken the day of my wedding. Loved everything from my hair and make up to my gorgeous bouquet! Hope you love it as much as I do!

Day 20::handwriting

Today's challenge is my handwriting. This picture, I have to say, is my usual, not hurried, handwriting, which is a combination of cursive and in print. Believe me when I say this is not my handwriting when in timed situations, like the Bar exam.  I do believe it is legible and not like my dad or grandfather's at all, which looks very much like doctor's handwriting and not as lawyers LOL

Some of my Bar exam index cards.

Day 19: something you (I) HATE to do!

If I had to choose one thing I hate do do, the clear winner has to be laundry!! And especially now, that I have to walk outside to another building with a basket full of clothes, the laundry detergent and quarters, yes, loooots of quarters. And it is not only me; DH also hates to do laundry under this circumstances. But you got to do what you got to do, right?

Days 17 & 18: time and drink!

First of all, sorry for missing yesterday's post. With studying and E it can get pretty crazy around here! So I decided to merge both challenges into today's post.

Yesterday's challenge was time. My first thought was trying to capture a unique picture of time, but sadly I do not own anything unique like an hour glass or some sort of funky wall clock. So this picture will have to do! It is actually how I tell time nowadays: when is time for E's feeding, or naps, or my study time, or when will DH get back from class. It is my time-teller!

It's our kitchen clock!

Today's challenge is drink.  What comes to mind when you hear the word drink? Well, for me it is WATER! That is basically the only thing I drink, except for the occasional glass of wine and my coffee. Even DH was saying how water has been my drink since forever! We have a joke about it: when he asks me what I want to drink during meals, I look at him and he already knows. "How could I not figure that one out?", he says. I just wish that E would drink more of her water, but she does not really like it. Either that or she hates her sippy cup. Oh, the joys of motherhood!

I could drink water all day if you let me.

Day 16: something new!

Today's challenge reminds me of the traditions in weddings: something new, something old, something borrowed and something blue! So when I read the challenge my first thought was: "what do I have new in the house?"

Why the question? Well, living the student life we really do not have extra spending money for luxuries. But my dear husband reminded me of the newest addition to the F household: a new set of kitchen knives! We put them to good use today! Many thanks to my mother in law. :)

Day 15: phone

Excuse my late post, but today has been a hectic day.

Today is day 15 of the challenge and today's topic: phone! Who does not own one nowadays?! Well, I can tell you this: I don't own a land line which used to be norm a few years ago. We have cell phones, which in my opinion, make us lazier. Why? Now we do not have to learn phone numbers. Or for that matter, we do not even have to dial the number, it does it for you. And if you have Siri, you need only say it! Technology!!

Anyway, this is my phone, a.k.a., an extension of me.

Day 14: Heart

It had to be heart! What could be more fitting for today?! And who else, besides my husband, to carry my heart? (...and all the other little hearts!)

Even though LOVE should be celebrated every day...

Happy Valentine's Day!

Day 13: blue!

Blue!!! My favorite color! I absolutely adore it - so much that I would love to dress Eli in blue clothes all the time, but I barely find any cute outfits in that color :( so I have to settle for what there is: pink and purple.

Anyway, when I saw the challenge my first thought was: what should I photograph from all things blue? I think I found my perfect inspiration covered in tons of blue! What do you think?

Day 12: Inside your (my) closet!

First of all, I would like to start by saying that my current closet space is sooooo small that it only holds approximately 1/3 of all my clothes! That said, I have all my Summer clothes in a box down in the storage area plus tons of clothes back home. Right now, my closet if filled with all my Winter wardrobe, which I think has more color than the typical Winter wardrobe you would find in the Northeast! But what can I do? I am Puerto Rican and I love color!

Day 11: makes me happy! :)

What makes me happy?? Well, there are many things that make me happy: my husband, my marriage, coffee in the morning, dancing, mother nature, but I have to say that most of all, my beautiful baby girl! Unless you are a parent, I don't think you can or will understand how much you love them, even before they are born. I just hope that she knows when she grows up how deep of a love it is!

Day 10: Self portrait

Don't you remember all the times in school where they asked you to write a paper titled "Who am I?" or something along those lines. I remember really struggling to put in paper words that would describe, which never is an easy task. I guess because I don't sit with myself asking me questions to get to know me. I think I should start to do that and really get to know myself more.

So when I read that today's challenge was to capture my self portrait, my first thought was "how?". How should I pose? How should I be dressed? How do I portray who I really am? My answer: I would capture a random picture during the day with my cell phone. I think that is the best way to portray myself. So here is a picture of me!

Day 9: Front door

Today's challenge is photographing the front door. I have to say that I don't like our door, but what can we do.

To make the composition of the picture different, I took the shot from an angle: looking up.  On a side note, you can see the wreath I made for Christmas, but works for all seasons!

Day 8: sun

Today's challenge was to photograph the sun. Well, I have a confession to make: I looked at the challenge list yesterday and decided to take the picture yesterday at sunset. Oh, am I glad I did!! Today is snowing, so no sun!

This is my picture. Hope you like it!

This is my view today, all grey and gloomy and no sun at sunset.

Today's challenge is buttons. There is not much to say except that I love the picture I took.  The picture is of my new coat - thanks mom!

Hope you enjoy it!

Day 6: Dinner

Today's challenge (I rather say, yesterday's challenge) is dinner! I have to say that dinner is not my favorite meal of the day - BREAKFAST is! Those who know me know that I have an obsession with all things Breakfast. For example, if you ask me what are some great meals at Denny's I will only reply you with breakfast meals and it doesn't matter at what time of the day you ask me!

But going back to the challenge, I made for dinner some couscous with broccoli and cheese. It sounds very complicated, but it's not. I have to confess - I make the boxed ones as I yet have to try to cook couscous as it is. Why couscous? Because we are trying to eat healthier and vary our menu. The Puerto Rican diet is very limited in my opinion: rice, beans, some kind of meat, plantains. I wish the Island could import more healthy foods and different grains, but it is not happening. Thus, while we live in the continental U.S., we will make the best of it!

Here is our dinner.

Day 5: 10 A.M.

I was bad today with the challenge. I have to admit it. I did not know what the challenge for today was until my friend -who is also following the challenge- reminded me of it. Needless to say, I was a little late for it. So pardon my picture as it was taken with my cell phone and it was at 10-ish A.M. I will just call it the 10-ish picture.

Nonetheless, I think I did a pretty good job with it and it was meant to be: on our way to Church! (I have to say, today was a powerful day with a pretty powerful message, thus, it was truly meant to be!)

Day Four: a stranger

I thought day four's challenge was an interesting one: photographing a stranger! My first thought was how to photograph someone without their consent to be published? or rather, should I ask for that person's release so that it can be published? I opted for photographing without the subject's consent taking the necessary measures.

My only problem: studying for the Bar and taking care of an eight month old does not leave a lot of time to go out or have leisure time. So when we headed out, it was already nighttime which posed a bigger challenge. This was the outcome. I am pretty pleased with it! Hope you are too.

Day Three: Hands

When I read the challenge for today, my first thought was "hands?!?!" I did not know what to photograph or how I would go about the challenge. So I decided I would look through some of the pictures that people had already posted on Twitter and what do you know? They were literally hands! Their hands! Some had rings, some had their hands at the steering wheel, and some had nail polish. That is when I had my "eureka!" moment!

I would photograph the light of my life hands: E's hands! So I went about my task of capturing her hands, but let me tell you, it was no easy task. Then, in the middle of shooting, I had the idea of capturing our hands together. And this was the outcome! Hope you like it.

And here are some more hands.
