February Photo Challenge!

Most of you may not know that I have a love for photography! Ever since I took that class in undergrad for my B.A. in Journalism. And let me tell you, it was not an easy class - the toughest professor, Summer class, at 7:00 A.M. and staying in the lab until 9:00 P.M. (yes, it was the old way to do photographs!) But I did learn a few things about photography like composition, light and technical stuff like aperture, shutter speed and ISO.

Today I was browsing Pinterest when I stumbled upon a photography challenge for the month of February created by Chantelle from Fat Mum Slim. I thought it was a pretty good idea plus I get to take out my camera. So for my sanity amidst the Bar studies, I have decided to join in the challenge starting tomorrow! If you want to join, here's how to:

1. Use the list above as inspiration and take a photo everyday. For example for number one on the list, 'your view today' you'd take a shot of whatever it is that you can see today. This would be a wider shot of your office space, where you went for a walk, or whatever it is that you can see!
2. Share on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, your blog or where ever it is you want to share. If you're sharing on Instagram or Twitter use the hashtag #FEBphotoaday so everyone can find them. There's a great community around the photo sharing, so do share!
3. Check out everyone else's pictures. I [Chantelle] do it before I go to bed each night and it's so fun to see how different everyone's photos are. There are people from every corner of the world playing.

Keep checking my blog so you can see my progress!! The challenge is fairly easy, you can join too! :)
I started practicing today with my cutest littlest model!

Sightseeing to...El Yunque Rainforest

Please excuse the silence, but with the Holidays, my family and now Eli and I are sick, it has been tough to keep the blog updated. Please enjoy!

On December 30th, we (DH, Eli, my sisters and their other halves) went on an "expedition" to El Yunque Rainforest located in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. I should add that its the only rainforest in the National Park System in the U.S. and yes, its located in our beautiful Island. Another important detail: both my sisters have "other halves", or as we say, medias naranjas! LOL That is the reason we went to the rainforest: my middle sister's boyfriend -let's call him B- is originally from South Dakota so he really wanted to go.

I had been to the forest just once before, but never to the visitor center which contains vast information regarding El Yunque, from different types of flora and fauna existing in the rainforest to the names of all the peaks in the rainforest. One fun fact I didn't know is that the name El Yunque is the name of the second tallest mountain in the forest.

The forest has many interesting things to see, including Yokahu observation tower (yes, we went up all 96 steps and I was carrying my 17 lbs + baby) and a beautiful waterfall, La Mina, where people like to go to get in the water (to cold for my taste!).  Because we had Eli with us, I let the guys walk part of the trail to La Mina while I stayed with her.

Eli and me at the bottom of the tower

One of the views from the Observation point: the two highest peaks in El Yunque.
And what trip to El Yunque would be complete without stopping to eat frituras in Luquillo's kiosks. There we showed B what real frituras are: rellenos de papa, bacalaitos (cod fish), sorrullos de maiz, alcapurrias, piononos and even some mofongo. All in all, it was a great trip!

If you want to learn more information about our amazing rainforest, click here.  The forest opens daily from 7:30am to 6:00pm.

Happy New Year...welcome 2012!

This was our baby's first New Year's Eve..and what a night it was!

The whole family gathered at my grandma's for the night, where there was great Puerto Rican Christmas music and a lot of food! We had an amazing night!

Enjoy some pics!

E in her pretty green dress!

Everybody was doing shots... of Welch's Sparkling Juice!!!!!! We were all drunk with love for one another. No need for alcohol in this household!

I truly hope that everyone had a great New Year's Eve and many blessings during the new year.

Happy 2012!
